What is baptism and why do it?
Some information to help you in your decision
Baptism literally means ‘immerse or plunge’. It is the act of being fully immersed in water as a declaration of your faith in Jesus and your intent to follow Him.
Being immersed in water is symbolises the burying of your old life and coming out of the water symbolises your new life.
Jesus was baptised and He commanded us to “Go into all the world and make disciples BAPTISING them in the name of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded.”
Being baptised is a step of obedience and faith that immerses us into the death and resurrection of Jesus and His Body, the church.
Short answer: No.
We believe it is good and encouraging for people to see and hear why you are taking this important step. So we encourage people to be baptised in our services with your new church family.
But that’s not your only option. If you would like to do something else, contact us here and we’ll be in touch to discuss it with you.
If you do choose to get baptised in the service, we ask everyone who is being baptised to send us a short (30sec-a minute) video telling us why you getting baptised. We play this just before your baptism.
We do baptise children and students. For us the issue is whether or not your child can understand what baptism is for them. This is a great opportunity for you as a parent to take about faith with your child.
Please check out our page Baptism for Young people here for more information and help with discussing this with your child.
Some churches choose to christen or baptize infants. While we recognize the right of other churches to practice infant baptism, we understand Scripture to teach that only people who have made the decision to follow Jesus should be baptized. Baptism does not make you a Christian. It shows that you already are one.
We do dedicate children.
Please contact us if you would like to discuss having your child dedicated.
